| Lilith At Lilith's Glade, we are ruled by the Great Mother Goddess, but we feel a strong affinity to Lilith's sexuality, her energy and her dominant feminine nature. According to the Bible, Lilith was the first wife of Adam. She wouldn't lie beneath Adam when he wanted sex with her but insisted on mounting him. She would not agree to taking a subservient position to him and she uttered the name of God and left the Garden of Eden of her own accord. In literature throughout the ages, Lilith has also been described as a goddess of the night, a seductress, a female night-demon, a succubus, a screech owl, a vampire and a witch. She is associated with the sexual urges that overtake people in their sleep, sexual dreams and the desire to masturbate. "One may not sleep in a lonely house, and whoever sleeps in a house alone is seized by Lilith." (Shabbath 151b) |
