| Beltane 30th April & 1st May Beltane (literally “fire of Bel”) is one of the two biggest sabbats of the year (Samhain being the other), and on this night, we light our biggest fire, dance around it and leap over it, to celebrate the return of life and fertility to the world after the winter months. Beltane is the festival of sexuality and fertility. Our Glade is decorated with flowers and we wear flower garlands and head-dresses. The maypole is an obvious phallic symbol, danced around by the the coven, and branches and flowers are gathered from the surrounding forests and used to decorate doorways, windows and to make head-dresses.
